Depression

souls50Welcome to the Depression section of SoulStreet. If you have been diagnosed with depression or are someone who knows someone with depression, the information provided will be a good stepping stone to understanding this debilitating illness.

Depending on where you live its said that one in four or five people will have a depressive illness at some point in their lives.

Most people at some stage in their lives suffer from the ‘blues’ or can get depressed after something that happened in their lives, like the loss of a job, a divorce or the death of someone close. Please understand this is very different to the illness called Depression.

Until a few years ago, people with any type of mental illness were treated as outcasts in society and its only been in recent times that these illnesses are given the same respect as any other illness, such as diabetes or heart disease.

Any type of mental illness does not mean a person is unhinged mentally, it just means that there is something wrong with them physically and they are treated for it accordingly. People with any type of mental illness can perform perfectly normal in society.

The biggest enemy against anyone with a depressive illness is ignorance, education is the key to understanding!!
